Text message terms

MarkMe is a personal safety check-in app. These terms cover the text messages (SMS) MarkMe sends to safety contacts.

Who gets texts

We text people who turned on MarkMe text alerts themselves after someone added them as a safety contact. MarkMe never texts a number first. Adding someone's number in MarkMe does not send them anything.

How you opt in

There are two ways, and you choose to do either one yourself:

1. On the web. The person who added you shares a personal link with you (for example app.markmeapp.com/join/K7PMQ2XD), from their own phone. The page shows who added you and what the texts are for. You enter your mobile number and tick a checkbox, which starts unchecked, next to this statement:

   I agree to receive safety alert text messages from MarkMe (operated by Crossfxn LLC) at this number if [Name] misses a check-in or sends an SOS. Message frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel. Consent is not a condition of any purchase.

   The statement links to our Terms and Privacy Policy. You then tap Turn on text alerts. You can see a working sample at https://app.markmeapp.com/join/DEMO; it doesn't send a text.
2. By text. Text JOIN and the 8-character code from your link to (919) 629-1770.

Either way, we then send one confirmation text:

MarkMe: You're set. We'll text you only if [Name] misses a check-in or sends an SOS. Msg frequency varies. Msg&data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to opt out.

[Name] is the name of the person who added you. Each link works once and expires after 30 days.

What we send

• One confirmation when you turn on text alerts.
• An alert when the person who added you misses a check-in.
• An alert when they send an SOS.
• A follow-up when they mark themselves safe after an alert.

We never send marketing or promotional texts.

How often

Message frequency varies. After the confirmation, you only get texts when an alert happens, typically a few messages a month at most.

Opting out

• Reply STOP at any time to stop all texts from MarkMe.
• Reply START to opt back in.
• Reply HELP for help.

Cost

Message and data rates may apply.

Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Privacy

We do not sell or share your SMS opt-in data or personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. See our privacy policy.
